The eightieth Archbishop of Colombo, the Most Rev. Dr. Oswald Gomis, was appointed to the office in 2002. He goes to the history as the pioneer of the concept of the Branch Schools in the Archdiocese and he is more fittingly known as the “Father of the Branch Schools…”
His initiative to develop the Catholic education is truly praiseworthy. He gave to the people of God nearly 10 new schools which are now sheltering the children of this diocese with an excellent education.
Archbishop Oswald Gomis is an outstanding educationist who has contributed in different other ways as well. He retired from his office in the year 2009.
