The second Archbishop of Colombo, the Most Rev. Dr. Andrew Melizan OMI, became the Archbishop of Colombo in 1893 and continued for 12 long years in office. He initiated some of the most prominent schools in the Archdiocese of Colombo and today they are the most renowned and most sought after schools.
He followed the footsteps of his predecessor and continued with the same enthusiasm to develop education in the Archdiocese of Colombo.
St. Joseph’s College, Colombo, Holy Family Convent, Colombo and St. Bridget’s Convent, Colombo are among the many schools he established. He ended his office being the Archbishop of Colombo in1905.
